Nootka rose (Rosa nutkana)

Nootka rose is a tolerant shrub, growing in a variety of conditions, but prefers moist soils with fine to medium texture. Nootka rose is found in both open and shaded areas, in areas with 18+" of rain a year. Good for soil stabilization and erosion control, the fast-growing, thicket-forming rose is also useful in hedgerows and wind shelters.

Nootka rose flowers from May through July, with fruits forming in the late summer and early fall. The fruit, called hips, remain on the plant through the winter providing an important food source for wildlife.
