Serviceberry (Amelanchier alnifolia)

This multi-branched shrub with simple leaves has masses of small white flowers in the spring. May be trimmed as a hedge. It is an important shrub for wildlife. Its dark red to purple-black fruit is harvested commercially in Canada for fresh market or syrup. Maturity 5’ to 10’; 5’ to 6’ wide; sun or partial shade; drought tolerant.
